I go to the energy exchange in the FS for a party Halloween. I'm too small to accommodate adult costumes, so I want to do something with things I already have. Possible orders apply three different braces (even if they are not really cinch), laced boots, and see my girly. I'm thinking of a pirate costume or something like that. Does anyone have any ideas?

How to become a porcelain doll for Halloween?
I'm basically looking to be a porcelain doll, which was Victorian or loltia gothicish. I think I have a dress to work, but everything else [headdress, makeup, everything else wrist] I need help! Also I have ballet slippers with little bows on them that I was going to use for shoes. She launched a business empire when she was nineteen years old. Her New England Valentine Company grossed $5,000 in its first year and was earning more than $100,000 annually when she retired in 1881 at the age of 53.
Her name was Esther Allen Howland (1828-1904), and today she is often called the Mother of the American Valentine’s Day card. Her alliances with two other early valentine makers, Jotham Taft (1816-1910) and George C. Whitney (1842-1915), would build the company she started in her home into an economic powerhouse.
In 1847, Worcester, Mass., native Esther Howland was a recent graduate of the 10-year-old Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley, Mass., when her father received a supply of English valentines to sell in his book and stationary store. She marveled at their lacey paper and floral decorations, but she thought she could do better.
Through her father’s store she imported the materials from England and set to work. Her brother was so impressed with the results that he took samples with him on selling trips and brought back orders-so many orders that Howland had to recruit friends to help her keep up with the demand.
Soon the enterprise moved to the third floor of the Howland home where there was enough room to set up an assembly line, with each employee contributing a piece to each card. Later she rented commercial space.
By the mid-1860s Jotham Taft and George C. Whitney also were building reputations as valentine makers.
According to family lore, Taft was creating valentines as early as 1840; however, 1863 is the first record we have of his efforts. Taft collected materials while traveling in Europe, and when he returned to the United States he and his wife made valentines at home.
Taft later partnered with Howland but sold his company to George Whitney when he retired.
Like Howland, George C. Whitney began selling valentines out of the stationary store he and his brother, Edward, owned in Worcester, Mass. Edward left the partnership in 1869, and in 1881, Whitney bought New England Valentine Co. from Howland.
Combined with Taft’s and Howland’s Companies, Whitney took his firm to the next level in American valentine manufacturing. He installed machinery to make lace paper and floral decorations so the firm no longer would have to import materials from England. By 1888, the company boasted stores in New York, Boston, and Chicago.
After George Whitney died in 1915, his son, Warren, took over the business. When it shut down in 1942, a victim of the World War II paper shortage, the company that had grown out of the efforts of Esther Allen Howland, Jotham Taft, and George C. Whitney was the largest valentine producer in the world.

Top 5 DIY Halloween Costumes For Toddlers and Kids
Halloween is almost here and you still have time to get your kids some trick-or-treat Halloween costumes. But come to think of it, it isn’t really practical to buy a costume from the kids’ department at your local mall since the following year your kids will be bigger and taller, and their costumes would be out-of-date.
A better and practical way to solve this problem is to DIY or do it yourself. You can save a lot from DIY Halloween costumes for kids because you won’t be wasting a couple of dollars for each kid each year. Even if you do spend some dollars, it won’t be such a waste of money afterwards especially if you will just purchase small items to complete the look of your kids’ costumes.
In order to come up with costumes from ordinary clothing and/or materials that are available at home, you should think first of themes or characters for your kids. If you are like most parents who do not have the time to do some arts and crafts project, you can always use what’s available and easy to make.
Below are 5 DIY Halloween costumes that are easy and cheap to assemble:
(1) The Black Ninja
This is very simple to create and you only need black long-sleeved shirts, black pants or sweatpants, black socks and shoes [sneakers preferably] and black ski masks. They may look like burglars if they don’t have ninja swords and you can make these out of cardboards and some silver paper. You can also add each a colored-belt using thin scrap fabrics that you can get from craft stores or from your local seamstress for free.
Your kids can form a band of ninjas and you can also alter the color of their costumes by using colored shirts and pants.
(2) The Break Dancer
Now, this is pretty easy. Look into your kid’s wardrobe and most likely he has a beanie, a hooded jacket and a printed shirt. Jeans and sneakers are always good segments for this look. You can also add a single glove to complete the look and of course an appropriate hairstyle. Your kid may look like an ordinary kid this way, but adding a prop sound system made of cardboard that he could carry will do the trick. Make this prop sound system his goody bag by making it from a box with an opening and latch to secure the goodies inside.
(3) Mummy kiddos
Some prefer to use ordinary tissue rolls in creating a mummy, but using rolled paper towels are better since they are tougher and wider. Roll the paper towels around your kids’ body, limbs and head, but do not cover the face, you can use make up to create a scary face. Make sure that your kids’ are wearing shirts and tights or shorts underneath. They should also wear socks and white sneakers, if they have white.
You can use ordinary glue to stick the paper towels together. Leave some paper towels hanging and put makeup on each kid.
(4) Zombie kids
Creating a zombie clan is also very easy. You only need imagination and makeup to create a scary look for each kid. As for their clothes, choose the ones that are already very worn out so you can put holes and tear some parts. You can layer their costumes by using good shirts underneath and the torn ones on top. You can add blood and grime colors using water-based dyes that can be bought in the grocery or craft stores. Do this a few days before trick-or-treat day so the dye can dry.
(5) Vampire clan
Since Twilight is a popular book and movie, why not create a vampire clan based on this popular saga. You can make your kids look like the Cullens or another clan. It only takes some nifty-looking clothes to match the clan and also face powder to make their skins look pale. You may want to add false fangs to complete the look. No contact lenses for the kids, though. Just make them look like the Cullens by wearing light-colored clothes that are similar in style or you wish them to look like the vicious clans or the rouges, you can make them wear darker attire.
Not all parents have the time to create and design a costume from scratch. But with a little creativity and imagination, you will find that your kids’ wardrobe have more than what you need to create a character for him on Halloween.

I’m going to a Halloween party tomorrow night (adults only) and my finances have been really tight lately. I had to buy my daughter a costume for trick-or-treating so I just can’t shell out another $50-75 for a costume for myself. Relatives of ours live in a big old arts and crafts style house, with dark wood paneling, a large hall, a carved stairway balustrade and a big stone fireplace. It’s a bit dark inside for my taste, but when it is decorated up for Christmas each year it somehow becomes a magical place. They have a tall and heavily decorated Christmas tree in the hall, and lots of extra twinkling lights around the stairs and along the old-style picture rails and panels. With the fire going and the main lights dimmed, it is a scene right out of a one of those traditional Victorian Christmas cards.
Their home has become a focal point for Christmas celebrations for their family and close friends. Early on Christmas morning it has become a tradition that several families gather there and stack their Christmas gifts under the tree to make an impressive colorful pile. We all stay on for a Christmas morning brunch around the fire before thoughts turn to the preparations for Christmas dinner. The highlight of the morning, of course, is the opening of the presents.
A few years ago one of the granddads was persuaded to dress up as Santa in a Santa suit to hand out the Christmas presents from under the Christmas tree. He chose a traditional red velvet Santa outfit, with white trimmings, a large white beard, a broad black belt and black boots. It was bought ready made, and was excellent quality for a very affordable price. He has a little hand bell as well, to call everyone to attention. He kind of looked like a jovial Father Christmas even without a Santa costume, and carried the role off brilliantly to the great delight of all the kids. Having Santa Claus himself hand out the Christmas gifts added enormously to the pleasure to be seen on the faces of the children. A very realistic Father Christmas as the focus of attention made the Christmas morning gathering a very special annual event that everyone looked forward to for weeks ahead.
The Christmas costume idea was such a hit that everybody now at least wears a Christmas hat of some kind, mostly Santa hats in various styles, elf caps with big ears or reindeer antlers. There have been a few variations from these traditional themes, like the occasional Grinch from the Dr Seuss books and the movie, or Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas movie. Even the family pet has his Santa dog hat.
Last year, one of the younger mothers who helps Santa sort through the gifts arrived in a very fetching sexy Christmas costume in red and white. There has been much speculation among the menfolk as to whether this new fashion will inspire the other Moms to join her this year.
The granddad has so enjoyed being a Santa he has also worn his Santa costume to help out with a children’s hospital visit and has a couple of other community Christmas activities scheduled before Christmas as well.

I’m opting for a white dress all bloodstained with little fangs and bite marks but I don’t know what shoes I should wear. I have some Victorian looking boots but should I get white flats to still look like a sacrifice?

From Dracula and other vampire books, victims are usually dressed normally, they are just really pale, have the bite marks on their necks which they often try to cover with a scarf, and their teeth are starting to grow. If you want to go Victorian, keep the dress, shoes, and accessories all within the time period. Pale makeup with dark circles under the eyes and messed up hair should be good. Dracula is pretty short if you want to read it, it would give you some good ideas.

Twilight Halloween Costume?

Well, if you’ve got dark hair and pale skin, you could try loosely curling your hair, and wearing something dark and formal (I’m thinking dark blue off-the-shoulder dress, but I don’t know if it’s cause it’s like Bella’s dress in the book, or a favorite prom dress of mine from years ago.
